With teamwork, knowledge and experience, Daniel Aufdenblatten and Richard Lehner from Zermatt saved the lives of three mountaineers. On Annapurna (Nepal) in spring 2010, they carried out the highest-ever mountain rescue – at 7000 metres altitude – by helicopter. In Washington DC today, they received on march 8 2011 the ‘Aviation Oscar’, the Heroism Award, for their feat.

TripAdvisor once again is praising the Zermatt hotels. The Omnia Hotel is ranked fifth and the Matterhorn Focus seventh in all of Switzerland in the TripAdvisor ratings. Many other Zermatt hotels were also distinguished.

The Zermatt ski region offers its guests a great benefit with its digital offering. This is the conclusion reached in a study by Atos. The Matterhorn ski paradise was ranked first in front of 13 other ski resorts in Switzerland and Austria.

Hotel rankings were published in both the 2016-2017 edition of Karl Wild’s book "Die 150 besten Hotels der Schweiz" (best hotels) and the SonntagsZeitung. The lists include 11 Zermatt hotels prominently represented once again. With "Prix Bienvenu" Switzerland Tourisme has also awarded the 100 most friendly Swiss hotels.

The Gault Millau chef de cuisine Heinz Rufibach is now in charge of the fine dining Restaurant Alpine Gourmet Prato Borni in the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof. Regular guests and locals have a very good culinary memory of Rufibach. The Bern native was already chef de cuisine in the Zermatterhof from 1996 to 2002.

Mountain lifts: The Riffelberg Express now also links the Furi mountain station with the Riffelberg in July and August 2017. This means that both Matterhorn glacier paradise and the Gornergrat can be visited easily in a single day.

The Europaweg between Grächen and Zermatt can be hiked again without a detour this summer. The construction work on a new suspension bridge above Randa will be inaugurated on Saturday, 29th July 2017.

The Täsch mountain guide and expedition leader Klaus Tscherrig stood atop the summit of Mount Everest (8,820 m) with Sherpa and two of his long-time guests on 27 May 2017. This means that he had completed the "Seven Summits".
